Our history
Godalming Classic Knitwear was formed in October 2004, trading from the delightful 17th century Cow House in Brighton Road, Godalming in Surrey.

The business took over from the traditional factory outlet of Alan Paine Ltd. which was closed in June 2004. The shop was re-opened under private ownership just five months later and, due to our close association with Alan Paine Ltd, we are able to trade as the Alan Paine Outlet Store. There is, however, no formal business link between the two companies.
We were delighted to receive an overwhelming welcome from our loyal Alan Paine customers who were thrilled to see the store back in business. Many of our customers are old friends and shop manager Colin Beattie and his assistant Doreen Casson have served them for many years.
We continue to have a strong relationship with Alan Paine Ltd. Although they are no longer located in Godalming we still act as their factory outlet. As a result we have many seconds on offer at greatly reduced prices, as well as out of stock items and last seasons colours at very competitive prices.

We recently commissioned an oil painting - opposite - by local artist Kevin Gorton as a celebration of our relationship with Godalming's traditional wool heritage, and Alan Paine in particular. The original is hanging in our shop, and gift cards featuring the painting can be bought there too. Our Gift Vouchers feature the design too.
We are always delighted to welcome you at our store in Godalming, Surrey in the UK. However, for customers who are not able to visit us in person we are able to offer a range of classic garments online via this website. Please contact us direct if you have any specific requirement and we are always happy to check our shop stock for you.
